FORNEY, Texas β€” A man was arrested overnight after allegedly causing a two-vehicle crash which injured two individuals and fleeing the scene β€” prompting a brief manhunt involving a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter.

The crash was reported just after 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, on westbound U.S. Highway 80 near Pinson Road.

Forney Police Department Detective Michael Clay says the driver, identified as 30-year-old Duston Nipp of Mesquite, Texas, fled the scene of the crash on foot into a nearby wooded areaβ€” in between U.S. Highway 80, Pinson Road, Brazos Road, and Lovers Lane β€” and climbed approximately 10 to 15 feet up a tree.

A responding DPS helicopter was able to spot Nipp in the tree and instructed officers on the ground to his location.

Nipp was then instructed, at gun point, to come down from the tree. Nipp complied and was arrested without further incident.

Two people from the vehicle Nipp struck were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Nipp now faces three charges for intoxication assault with a vehicle, according to jail records.
