KAUFMAN, Texas — The suspect in a domestic disturbance and shooting in southeast Dallas has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police chase and standoff in Kaufman County.
Just before 2 a.m., Dallas police say the man, who has not yet been identified, shot a woman multiple times in the 12300 block of Ravenview Road. The woman was transported by private vehicle to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where she remains in critical condition, as of last check Sunday morning.
SWAT responded to the residence of the shooting but the male suspect had already left the location.
Kaufman County Sheriff's Office deputies located the suspect vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 175 and initiated a pursuit. Deputies successfully deployed spike strips and the pursuit came to an end near Jiba Road, just east of Kaufman, Texas, where a standoff ensued.
When deputies approached the vehicle, they discovered the male suspect deceased of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
U.S. Highway 175 was initially closed in both directions due to the incident. Both directions of the highway reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the death investigation in Kaufman County, according to Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart. The Dallas Police Department is investigating the shooting incident in their city.
