KAUFMAN, Texas — A 33-year-old man is facing evading and drug charges after attempting to flee on foot from a traffic stop on Wednesday night in Kaufman.
KAUFMAN, Texas — A 33-year-old man is facing evading and drug charges after attempting to flee on foot from a traffic stop on Wednesday night in Kaufman.
Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black says 33-year-old James Russell Shephard II was stopped by an officer on a traffic violation in the 1200 block of Main Street when he fled on foot.
Black says Shephard was captured by officers approximately a block and a half from the location of the traffic stop.
“He threw a small container while running from officers,” stated Black. “After he was apprehended, the officers retrieved the container and found it to contain illegal substances.”
Shephard now faces charges for evading, possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 greater than or equal to one gram and less than four grams, and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 3 less than 28 grams. Shephard, who has recent addresses in Mabank and Tyler, is being held at the Kaufman County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
