MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department arrested a Terrell man on nine counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child stemming from incidents in the 90s.
On December 28, 2017, the Mesquite Police Department charged Daniel Wayne Meshell, 74 of Terrell, Texas, with nine counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.Â
Meshell was booked into the Dallas County Jail and is being held on bonds totaling $900,000.
"These charges stem from offenses which occurred between 1991 and 1998 against three victims," stated the Mesquite Police Department in a Wednesday afternoon press release. "The victims have usually been females between 2-8 years of age."
Investigators believe there may be more victims due to Meshell's level of access to children over the course the last 50 years.
"Since 1968, Meshell has had access to children through a family member’s in-home day care service," stated the department. "Additionally, Meshell has been a volunteer in children’s church ministries at two different churches, St. Pius X in Dallas from 1978 to 1996 and St. John the Apostle in Terrell from 1999 to the present."
Meshell also briefly drove a school bus for Terrell ISD in between 2011 to 2012.
"At this time, no victims have been identified in Terrell ISD or at either church," stated the department. "The Catholic Diocese of Dallas and Terrell ISD have been very cooperative in this investigation."
Investigators encourage anyone with information on additional offenses involving Meshell, to contact investigator Rountree at 972-329-8303 or MPD dispatch at 972-285-6336
