MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department has arrested a third suspect involved in a Wednesay morning aggravated robbery at a Quik Trip gas station on North Galloway Avenue, the department announced today.
According to police, at approximately 12:28 a.m., Wednesday, three black males entered the Quik Trip located at 4451 North Galloway Avenue, displayed a pistol, and demanded cash.
“Because there were eight people in the store the clerk initially thought the suspect holding the gun was kidding,” stated Mesquite Police Department Lieutenant Brian Parrish. “In order to prove his intentions the suspect holding the gun stepped outside the door and fired one round into the air.”
That’s when, police say, the clerk handed over the money and the three suspects fled the scene.
Dispatchers broadcasted a description of the suspect’s vehicle and officers located it as it traveled westbound on the north service road of Interstate 30 and a brief vehicle and foot pursuit ensued.
“With the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter two of the suspects were located hiding in a backyard in the area of Emerald Drive and were taken into custody,” stated Parrish.
The third suspect escaped capture on Wednesday, according to Parrish, and the department has released a screenshot of the suspect taken from video surveillance inside Quik Trip in hopes the public would be able to assist in identifying the man. Police identified the third suspect as 24-year-old Vaughn Kemp who was located and arrested at a motel in the 3600 block of U.S. Highway 80.
The two suspects arrested Wednesday were identified as 27-year-old Alton Conklin of Seagoville, Texas, and 22-year-old Malcolm Webb of Dallas, Texas. All three have been charged with aggravated robbery and are being held on $200,000 bonds.
The Mesquite Police Department released a portion of the surveillance video on Thursday afternoon, see below.
