MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department is seeking the public's assistance locating a fatal hit-and-run driver.

MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Department is seeking the public's assistance locating a fatal hit-and-run driver.

"On Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 7:34 a.m., officers responded to a call of a deceased person lying in the grass in the 4300 block of IH 30," stated Mesquite Police Department spokesperson Lt. Brian Parrish. "The investigation revealed a vehicle had struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway."

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver fled.

The pedestrian’s name is being withheld pending positive identification, according to Parrish.

Parrish says investigation revealed the original hit-and-run crash occurred after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The suspect's vehicle is believed to be a silver, early 2000s-model pikcup or sport utility vehicle manufactured by General Motors — a Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac.

The vehicle could be a Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Avalanche, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon or Cadillac Escalade, according to Parrish.

"It will have noticeable front-end damage," he said. "The front right headlight will be broken and the passenger side rear view mirror will be damaged or missing."
