FORNEY, Texas — Several northwestern Kaufman County law enforcement agencies responded to a report of numerous fights at North Forney High School on Thursday afternoon, December 7, 2023.

FORNEY, Texas — Several northwestern Kaufman County law enforcement agencies responded to a report of numerous fights at North Forney High School on Thursday afternoon, December 7, 2023.

Forney ISD Police Department campus officers requested an agency assist from neighboring departments around 12:30 p.m. after a reported fight in the school cafeteria erupted into several different fights. Responding officers, requesting all available units to assist in stopping the fights and crowd control, reported fights inside the cafeteria area and outside the campus.

Around 1:39 p.m., police were reporting the situation had calmed. North Forney High School was placed on a "hold" status during the incident and subsequent investigation.

"First, all students and staff are safe," read a statement from the district to parents. "Today, there was an altercation on campus that led to North Forney being put on hold while an investigation was underway. For the safety of our staff and students, we cannot always communicate a hold until it is lifted and the investigation is complete."

Though numerous ambulances were requested to the campus due to reports from law enforcement of teacher and student injuries, the district says no one sustained any injuries requiring transport to a hospital.

Those involved in today's incident will face stiff penalties, says the district.

"Our police and campus administration are pursuing criminal and disciplinary action to the fullest extent," stated the district. "Because student records are not public, we cannot always share what disciplinary actions are taken with the public."

Its unknown how many students are facing criminal charges or disciplinary action.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story indicated rumors of a non-student gaining access to campus were unsubstantiated. This publication has reviewed video, and law enforcement sources have confirmed, an adult male gained access to the campus and made his way to the cafeteria where the other altercations were or had occurred. The adult male has since been charged with criminal trespass and may face additional charges.
