One arrested in connection with shooting that left two injured in Kaufman

KAUFMAN, Texas — UPDATE [Dec. 6] — Kaufman police took a man into custody today in connection with a shooting overnight Sunday.

KAUFMAN, Texas — UPDATE [Dec. 6] — Kaufman police took a man into custody today in connection with a shooting overnight Sunday.

The Kaufman Police Department took 35-year-old Perry Durell Sanders of Kaufman, Texas, into custody today without incident in connection with Sunday's shooting.

Sanders is charged with one count of deadly conduct and, after arraignment on Tuesday morning, is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on a $30,000 bond.

A law enforcement source tells inForney.com the shooting stemmed from a disturbance at a reported house party in the 700 block of East First North Street.

One of the victims, while initially reported as being treated and released, remains hospitalized in reported critical condition and is awaiting surgery. A second victim was treated, released, and is expected to return for surgery at a later date.

ORIGINAL [Dec. 5] — Two people were injured in an overnight shooting in Kaufman, according to the Kaufman Police Department.

On Sunday, December 5, 2021, at approximately 12:05 a.m., the Kaufman Police Department was dispatched to a reported shooting in the 700 block of East First North Street.

Upon arrival, Kaufman police officers observed a large group of people and located two male gunshot victims.

Both victims were transported to Dallas-area hospitals, treated, and released earlier today.

"The other subject involved in this shooting and has been identified and interviewed," read a statement from the Kaufman Police Department. "The investigation into the facts of the shooting continues to be investigated at this time."

"The Kaufman Police is working alongside the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office," stated the department. "Any criminal charges are pending until the investigation is completed."

The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted.
