One arrested in Forney shooting involving 'high-risk' activity, one person critically injured

FORNEY, Texas — One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Forney last week involving what police are now saying was "high-risk" activity and resulted in one person being critically injured.

FORNEY, Texas — One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Forney last week involving what police are now saying was "high-risk" activity and resulted in one person being critically injured.

Earlier today, through a coordinated effort involving the Forney Police Department's Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, SWAT, and the Kaufman County Street Crimes Task Force, Taziria Sims of Dallas, Texas, was arrested.

Sims, according to police, was involved in the January 6, 2024, in the 100 block of Lonesome Dove Lane.

The shooting occurred at approximately 9:24 p.m. Police responded after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire.

At the residence, arriving officers located a victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who was not a resident of the call location, was transported to a Dallas-area hospital for treatment.

"The investigation revealed that high-risk activity was involved at the location on the night of the shooting," read a statement from police today.

Two suspects had been reported as fleeing the scene the night of the shooting — resulting in an extensive search of the area with assistance of Kaufman County Crime Scene, Dallas Police Department's Air 1, Kaufman County K-9, Kaufman County Pct. 2 Constables Office, and Forney PD K-9. Intelligence later suggested the suspects fled the area.

Sims has been charged with a second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Forney City Jail awaiting arraignment.

The investigation is ongoing.
