KAUFMAN, Texas — A man has been arrested following a brief pursuit of a stolen vehicle near and into the downtown Kaufman square earlier today.

The Kaufman Police Department received a 911 call from an individual who had spotted their stolen vehicle in Kaufman, according to Kaufman Police Department Chief Dana Whitaker. Police officers set up in various positions around the city in an attempt to locate the vehicle which was later spotted near the downtown Kaufman square.

Whitaker says the officer who spotted the vehicle wasn’t behind the vehicle very long before it fled into the square, drove into opposing traffic, and lost control. “Our officers were close enough when he lost control to make an arrest,” stated Whitaker.

Whitaker also says a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office deputy in a nearby building came out and assisted the officers in the arrest. “Working together, that’s what we do,” said Whitaker.

The man, who has not yet been identified, will be charged by the Kaufman Police Department with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, drug paraphernalia, running a stop sign, and no driver’s license, according to Whitaker.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of Seagoville and the Seagoville Police Department will likely seek charges for theft of a vehicle.
