CRANDALL, Texas — Crandall police officers investigating a suspicious vehicle arrested its two occupants and recovered a stolen firearm, the vehicle, which was also reported stolen, and charged one with possession of marijuana in a drug free zone.
While investigating the vehicle at U.S. Highway 175 and Farm-to-Market (FM) 741, police officers determined the vehicle was reported as being stolen during a robbery in Duncanville, Crandall Police Department Chief Dean Winters told inForney.com.
A firearm, discovered under the seat and easily accessible to the vehicle's occupants, was determined to be stolen out of Dallas.
"Luckily" the two vehicle's occupants were taken into custody without incident, according to Winters.
Police arrested 17-year-old Lemarcus Ladd and 18-year-old Bryson Miller — both were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Approximately one ounce of marijuana was discovered in the vehicle and found to be packed into several smaller packages consistent with distribution, stated Winters.
In addition to the charge for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, Ladd was charged with possession of marijuana in a drug free zone and Miller was charged with theft of a firearm. Both remain jailed at the Kaufman County Jail with bonds totaling $21,500 and $20,750, respectively.
