KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β€” The Dallas Police Department is asking anyone who may have been pulled over by an alleged police impersonator to contact their office.

β€œOn August 26, 2015, at about 4:05 a.m., an off-duty Dallas Police Officer was traveling in his personal vehicle eastbound at I-30 E. R. L. Thornton Freeway near Dolphin Road when a vehicle pulled behind him and turned on flashing red and blue lights,” the Dallas Police Department stated in a Wednesday release.

β€œThe officer felt suspicious about the vehicle, he pulled over to the shoulder of the road, and called 9-1-1,” the release further stated.

The unmarked vehicle, described as a Chevrolet pickup truck bearing Texas license plate number CZX 6848, continued on the freeway β€” driving past the officer. The officer followed the vehicle into Mesquite where the Mesquite Police Department stopped and detained the driver.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Charles Troutman, was arrested and charged with impersonating a public servant, a third-degree felony, and possession of marijuana.

The vehicle was previously registered to an address in Tool, Texas, just south of Kaufman County, to an individual with the same last name.

The Dallas Police Department is asking anyone who may have been stopped by this person/truck to call Dallas Police Department Detective Ed Lujan at (214) 671-3548.
