TERRELL, Texas — An alleged burglary suspect was shot and killed by police and another remains at large early Sunday morning near Terrell.

Around 3:30 a.m., deputies with the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office received a criminal trespass call at 1021 Everett Drive off of Spur 557 — just west of the city limits of Terrell and east of Forney.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that, upon arrival, a deputy saw a male suspect on the private property," Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. Jolie Stewart said. "The suspect fled on foot and the deputy followed."

"The suspect circled back to a pickup that was parked nearby, got in and accelerated toward the deputy," stated Stewart. "Fearing for his life, the deputy fired his service weapon striking the suspect."

The suspect died at the scene, according to police.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation, according to Stewart.

No police-related injuries were reported.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter briefly assisted deputies in their search for the second suspect.

Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to call the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office at (972) 932-4337 or the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at (877) 847-7522.
