FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Police Department is urging people to lock their car doors and remove valuable items following a robbery at a local daycare.

On Thursday, June 4, 2015, police say a woman was returning to her car after dropping off her child at a daycare in the 400 block of Pinson Road when she observed her car door open. When she approached she noticed another car with its door open and her purse in the front seat.

The woman attempted to retrieve her purse but was forced out of the car by a man and knocked to the ground, sustaining injuries, Forney Police Department Detective Michael Clay stated in a press release.

The man was described by police as a tall, thin black male with short hair and possibly in his mid 20’s. His vehicle was described as a royal blue, two-door car with Florida license plates.

“The Forney Police would like to encourage everyone to be mindful of your surroundings and personal safety and to lock your vehicle every time you exit,” stated Clay.

Police are asking for anyone with information about this crime or similar crimes to call the Forney Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (972) 564-7607.

Tips can be anonymously made at the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at (877) 847-7522 and, if that information leads to an arrest, a reward could be granted to the caller.

These types of opportunistic crimes rise during the summer and holiday months, according to police.

In the early morning hours of June 2, 2015, the Forney Police Department arrested three individuals who were allegedly pulling on car door handles and burglarizing the unlocked vehicles.
