FORNEY, Texas — A reported reckless driver led the Forney Police Department on an often low-speed pursuit that ended in Van Zandt County.

The chase began around 4:20 p.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, after officers received reports of a reckless driver in a white Kia on Eastbound U.S. Highway 80.

The vehicle was reportedly swerving across lanes and driving at inconsistent speeds, prompting police to initiate a traffic stop and subsequently a prusuit. The driver continued to weave erratically across lanes, at times reaching speeds of up to 70 mph, but often slowing down to speeds as low as 28 mph.

The pursuit eventually entered Van Zandt County, where local law enforcement were notified and joined the chase.

The driver managed to evade one set of spike strips laid out by the police but was eventually stopped near mile marker 520. A felony stop was initiated and the female driver was taken into custody without further incident around 4:50 p.m.

The driver was identified as 43-year-old Patrece Ward. She was booked into the Kaufman County Jail on charges for evading arrest and driving while intoxicated. Her bonds totaled $6,500.
