KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas β A registered sex offender was found guilty of additional sexual assault charges by a Kaufman County jury on Wednesday afternoon, September 17, 2014.
The jury found 55-year-old Pedro Segura guilty of one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child β a first-degree felony. Segura was taken into custody by the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office where he remains in jail on no bond.
A sentencing hearing for Segura has been scheduled for October 1, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. in Kaufman County 422nd District Court Judge B. Michael Chitty's courtroom. Segura could face life in prison or for any term of not more than 99 years or less than 25 years.
The charges against Segura stem back to January 2010, according to the indictment. Segura is accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14 continuously from on or about January 1, 2010, through September 26, 2011.
Segura was arrested by the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office on December 15, 2011, and released after posting a $100,000 bond.
In 1991, Segura was charged by the Pasedena Police Department with indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony. He was given deferred adjudication, seven years probation, and required to register as a sexual offender for life.
