KAUFMAN, Texas — A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of suspect(s) who allegedly injured an elderly blind man who was protecting an American Flag hanging from a flagpole near his front porch.

Police say this isn’t the first time the 92-year-old man’s American flag and U.S. Marine Corps flag have been destroyed or discarded.

On Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at approximately 9:41 p.m., the Kaufman Police Department responded to the reported assault in the 300 block of Seago Street. The victim told police he heard someone tampering with the flagpole in his front yard.

“He advised that in the past, someone has cut the rope on the flagpole, shredded his American Flag, and threw his U.S. Marine Corps Flag in the ditch,” the department stated.

“The victim, who is legally blind, walked onto the front porch of his residence and was pushed from behind, causing him to fall to the ground, injuring himself,” stated the department.

The victim told police it felt like two hands shoved him hard in the back and he then heard multiple people running from his property.

“It is unknown if the suspects were male or female as the victim stated that he did not hear them speak,” stated the department.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Kaufman Police Department at (972) 932-3094.
