Rockwall County police chase ends in Terrell after standoff

Terrell, Texas – Authorities from Rockwall County and Kaufman County pursued a fleeing suspect in a stolen vehicle late Thursday night, September 26, 2013, and into Friday morning.

Terrell, Texas – Authorities from Rockwall County and Kaufman County pursued a fleeing suspect in a stolen vehicle late Thursday night, September 26, 2013, and into Friday morning.

Shortly before midnight, police officers in Rockwall County began the pursuit heading southbound on State Highway 205 of a suspect in a stolen vehicle. The suspect refused to stop and continued fleeing south on SH 205 towards the City of Terrell.

The Terrell Police Department joined the chase and spike strips were deployed. The deployment of the spike strips was successful and the suspect's vehicle finally came to a stop in the Cornerstone Baptist Church parking lot on SH 205 just before Walmart and the US Highway 80/Moore Avenue intersection.

According to Captain A.D. Sansom with the Terrell Police Department, the suspect was armed with a gun and a standoff ensued. The Terrell Police Department's SWAT unit was also called to the scene and SH 205 was closed.

The standoff lasted for approximately four hours before the suspect was taken into custody without any further incident.
