SEAGOVILLE, Texas — The Seagoville Police Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating an early Saturday morning officer-involved shooting where two people were left dead.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. in the 600 block of Fran Street. Police responded to the home for an unknown type of disturbance after receiving a 911 call and hearing the caller announce they were committing a murder.
“Three uniformed Seagoville Police Officers responded to this investigation under a barricaded person protocol,” the Seagoville Police Department stated in a Saturday afternoon press release.
“Within minutes of officer’s arrival, and while establishing a perimeter around this home, the suspect emerged from the home and charged aggressively at officers,” stated the release. “This suspect was armed with a knife and blunt object.”
Seagoville Police Department Chief Ray Calverley told inForney.com an officer, later identified as a 26-year-veteran, shot the suspect. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a Dallas-area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police discovered the body of a 49-year-old woman inside the residence having died from an apparent bludgeoning.
“Both the victim, a 49 year old female, and the suspect, a 50 year old male, lived together in this home and were involved in a romantic relationship,” stated police. Nobody else was in the home at the time of the incident.
No officers were injured, according to Calverley. The officer who shot the suspect has been placed on routine administrative leave.
The Texas Rangers were called in to assist with the investigation.
