SCURRY, Texas – Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning at a home on County Road 4094 near Scurry. The homeowner and suspect is in custody and charged with murder.
SCURRY, Texas – Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate a homicide that occurred early Sunday morning at a home on County Road 4094 near Scurry. The homeowner and suspect is in custody and charged with murder.
The victim’s name has not been released by investigators, as the next of kin has not yet been identified.
A source familiar with the investigation, tells InForney.com that according to neighbors there is a possibility that the victim may have been homeless and had recently showed up in the area. Investigators believe a boat oar may have been used as the murder weapon.
The suspect, Ross Anthony Scott, 47, has been charged with murder and is in the Kaufman County jail on a $1 million bond.
Scott has had previous charges of assault, family violence, unlawful restraint and criminal mischief. The suspect is currently awaiting trial for charges from 2017 of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was expected to appear for a jury trial in April before 422nd District Judge Mike Chitty in that case according to court records.
According to KSCO they are still early in the investigation and have not yet determined a motive in the case.
