WILLS POINT, Texas — A suspect is in custody after allegedly assaulting a Wills Point police officer, stealing her patrol vehicle, and leading several area agencies on a high-speed pursuit.

WILLS POINT, Texas — A suspect is in custody after allegedly assaulting a Wills Point police officer, stealing her patrol vehicle, and leading several area agencies on a high-speed pursuit.

The Wills Point police officer was allegedly assaulted by the suspect on or near State Highway 64 when the suspect stole the officer's patrol vehicle and led multiple area law enforcement agencies on a high-speed pursuit.

The chase traveled southbound on SH 64, eastbound on Interstate 20 at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, and ended in a crash at the 537 exit for Farm-to-Market (FM) 16. The suspect fled on foot into a wooded area, prompting a brief manhunt.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Lonny Haschel tells inForney.com the suspect was taken into custody a short time later.

The officer was airlifted to an area hospital with what sources tell inForney.com are non-life threatening injuries.
