ROCKWALL COUNTY, Texas — An attempted traffic stop turned deadly on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, when a driver opened fire on Collin County Deputy Sheriffs on Interstate 30 near Rowlett, Texas.
The deputies, who were assigned to the North Texas Criminal Interdiction Unit, returned fire after the driver fled the attempted stop and began shooting.
The suspect, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
As of now, the Collin County Sheriffs Office has not reported any other injuries related to the incident.
The Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation, in accordance with standard procedure, and are receiving full cooperation from the Collin County Sheriffs Office.
Police have not released the name of the deceased.
