KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A teenager is in custody following a carjacking in Desoto, Texas, and high-speed pursuit through Dallas, Kaufman, and Van Zandt Counties early Wednesday morning.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A teenager is in custody following a carjacking in Desoto, Texas, and high-speed pursuit through Dallas, Kaufman, and Van Zandt Counties early Wednesday morning.
Desoto police say the 16-year-old, armed with a rifle, carjacked a woman in the parking lot of Jack in the Box located in the 900 block of North Hampton Road. Police attempted to stop the vehicle which fled onto eastbound Interstate 20.
The pursuit entered Kaufman County with speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter joining the pursuit.
The vehicle began to slow as it entered Van Zandt County and eventually came to a stop on Interstate 20 just east of Farm-to-Market 47 — approximately 55 miles from where the pursuit began.
Police say no shots were fired during the carjacking or pursuit and no injuries were reported.
The teenager was taken into custody without further incident and is being held at the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center in Dallas, Texas.
