TERRELL, Texas β€” A man was arrested Wednesday night in Terrell following an aggravated assault of a family member, ramming into an occupied police vehicle, and reporting a bomb β€” resulting in the evacuation of area residents, according to police.

At approximately 5:37 p.m., the Terrell Police Department responded to a home in the 1100 block of East High Street for a disturbance. Police say 35-year-old Gregory Allen Reddout of Terrell, Texas, was assaulting a female family member when he was chased from the home and shot at by a shotgun β€” leaving a visible shotgun blast on the trunk of the vehicle being driven by Reddout.

Reddout was able to flee the scene before police arrived only to return and ram into a parked Terrell Police Department SUV which was occupied by an officer. Police were able to arrest Reddout without further incident until they arrived at the Terrell Police Department jail when Reddout reported his vehicle was rigged with an explosive device.

β€œA safety perimeter was then established as investigators and forensics members backed off from processing the scene due to the potential threat,” stated Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.

Homes within a 300-foot perimeter were evacuated as police awaited the Garland Regional Response Team, bomb squad, to inspect the vehicle.

β€œThe scene was safely cleared and no explosives were discovered,” stated Sansom. β€œThe evacuation order was released and residents were allowed back in their homes and the forensic processing of the scene continued.”

Reddout is currently being held at the Terrell Police Department jail charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant and pending potential further assaults charges stemming from the original call.

Police cleared the scene just after 8 p.m. Only minor damage was reported to the police officer's vehicle.
