TERRELL, Texas – 22-year-old Jared Franklin Helbert of Terrell, Texas, was arrested Saturday on three warrants for sexual assault of a child.
Police received an anonymous phone call earlier in the week about two males who had “inappropriate sex,” according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. Helbert was arrested Saturday, August 23, 2014, at approximately 6:50 p.m. at the Terrell Police Department when he went in for questioning.
Investigators began working with First Baptist Church officials after learning Helbert and the 16-year-old male victim both attended youth group activities at the church where Helbert was a member of a youth band and regular attendee at Wednesday night youth events. Helbert was not a church employee. The assaults did not take place on the church property or at any church sponsored events, according to police.
“Church officials took immediate steps to ensure Helbert had no further contact with youth in the church or youth activities,” states Sansom. “During these church youth events, adults are prohibited by church policy from being alone with members of the youth program.”
At this stage in the investigation, police don't believe there are any other victims. If you have information about this investigation, contact Detective Brenda Bulin at (972) 551-6622 or the Kaufman County Crimestoppers at (877) 847-7522.
Helbert is being held on $25,000 bonds on each charge and was transferred to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center earlier this morning.
