Terrell man identified as gunman in Kaufman standoff

The Kaufman Police Department has named the suspect involved in the standoff at the Willow Bend Apartments in Kaufman on Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012 at approximately 7:45 a.m. The standoff resulted in three Kaufman ISD campuses to go on lockdown for several hours while officers searched for the suspect.

Kaufman Police Chief Chris Aulbaugh identified Ladarius Duane Ward, 21, of Terrell, Texas, as the suspect. Aulbaugh stated that the Ward pointed a gun at, and threatened to kill, another man who tried to retrieve his stolen vehicle from Ward. When the police were contacted by the man's wife, Ward ran into the Willow Bend Apartments.

As police arrived, a utility worker noticed the suspect run out of some bushes at the apartment complex and up to the second floor. Ward was believed to be hiding in one of the apartment's units because we was not seen leaving the scene. Kaufman Police, Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, and the Kaufman County Tactical team searched each residence for the suspect. Ward is still at large and a felony warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Ladarius Duane Ward is approximately 5-foot 7-inches tall, 140 pounds, and has a cross tattooed on his left cheek.
