TERRELL, Texas โ The Terrell Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old man on Friday morning and have released a recent picture of the man they are seeking in connection with his death.
Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says the department was dispatched to a shooting incident in the 1300 block of South Rockwall Avenue around 4:48 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017.
โA caller reported that a subject had been shot at the location,โ stated Sansom. โTerrell Police located one black male subject in his 20โs, presumably dead at the scene.โ
The man, later identified as 23-year-old Ja Darek De Shawn Moss of Terrell, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the location by Kaufman County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith.
Due to the shootings proximity to Burnett Elementary, the Terrell Independent School District was notified of the incident and school buses were reroute and parents were asked to seek an alternate route while taking children to school.
Sansom says there will be increased police presence and activity in the area for quiet some time.
The homicide remains under investigation and police are continuing to follow up on leads, stated Sansom. Friday afternoon, the Terrell Police Department issued a murder warrant for the arrest of 29-year-old Ontarius Cardea Morris, aka "Dub", of Terrell, Texas.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Terrell Police Department at (469) 474-2640 or, to leave an anonymous tip, contact the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at (877) 847-7522.
Last month, the Terrell Police Department responded to a presumably separate shooting incident which involved several locations, one of which was also on South Rockwall Avenue. One man was arrested in that incident.
