TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department is investigating a Saturday evening shooting which resulted in one person being taken by a CareFlite helicopter to a Dallas area hospital.

The shooting was reported around 5 p.m. on Mineral Wells Street near Southwestern Christian College, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. Officers with the Terrell Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety immediately responded to the scene and, within an hour, had several suspects related to the shooting in custody or held for questioning.

A man was injured in the shooting and taken by a CareFlite medical helicopter to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. The man, identified by the Terrell Police Department as 21-year-old Jermain Donavonn Brumsey, was reportedly shot in the back and leg and was most recently reported in stable condition.

Police located 29-year-old Gontavian Jackson at his home in the 800 block of South Frances Street with evidence linking him to the shooting, stated Sansom in a release. At the time of the release, police were awaiting a search warrant to search the home.

Police say they are also holding a 22-year-old male for questioning for involvement in the incident.

Although police continue to investigate the motive in the shooting, they say it may be related to a dispute over a dog.

This is a developing story.
