TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department is investigating a sexual assault of a child by multiple juvenile suspects which was videotaped and circulated.
The Terrell Police Department began investigating the incident after the victim made an initial outcry with a school counselor. The case was brought to the Terrell Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division because the incident did not occur on school property.
“During the preliminary investigation, detectives where made aware of a video allegedly circulating via iPhone messaging and other similar electronic forms of communication,” stated the Terrell Police Department in a press release.
“Detectives have obtained copies of the video and are currently conducting interviews in this case,” stated the release. “This is an open and active case involving both a juvenile victim and juvenile suspects.”
Police say all the parties involved know each other and are all of the same general age.
The Terrell Police Department is asking parents if they believe their child has a copy of the video on their phone to delete it immediately. “Under no circumstances should this video be forwarded to anyone,” stated the department.
Detectives will be consulting with the Kaufman County District Attorney's office concerning additional charges relating to the production and distribution of the video.
“If for some reason a parent believes their child may be involved in this incident, they are encouraged to call Terrell Police Detectives at 972-551-6622, Ext. #281,” stated the release.
