FORNEY, Texas — "Outstanding" work by detectives, police officers, and dispatchers has led to the arrest of three in connection with nearly $3,500 in stolen baby formula from Walmart over the past two weeks, Forney Police Department Chief Robert Sherwin tells inForney.com.
Forney police were first notified of the thefts on January 18, 2019, when Walmart employees reported two black males entered the store around 1:30 a.m. and stole 53 containers of baby formula valued at $1,649.01.
Police later posted surveillance photos of two of the individuals sought in the theft.
On January 26, 2019, at approximately 3:42 a.m., the two original suspects returned with a third accomplice — this time stealing $1,773.11 worth of baby formula.
Coordination between dispatchers and patrol officers led to the recovery of the stolen baby formula and three arrests.
Sherwin says two of the suspects were located in a vehicle and the third in a nearby dumpster.
Detectives confirmed two of the arrested suspects were involved in the original theft on January 18 — 21-year-old Javoya Brewer and 21-year-old Alexzavier Sherman. 25-year-old Joshua Brewer was arrested and charged in the second offense.
Javoya Brewer was arrested and charged by the Forney Police Department with engaging in organized criminal activity, a state jail felony; theft of property greater than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions, a state jail felony; theft of property greater than or equal to $750 and less than $2,500; and failure to identify as a fugitive. In addition to the Forney Police Department charges, Brewer is being held on 12 outstanding warrants from the Arlington Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff's Office, McLennan County Sheriff's Office, Collin County Sheriff's Office, and the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office for burglary of habitation, multiple charges for theft of property in various amounts, and multiple charges for engaging in organized criminal activity.
Sherman was charged with two counts of theft between $750 and $2,500 and engaging in organized criminal activity. Additionally, Sherman is being held on warrants from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office for criminal mischief and theft from person.
Joshua Brewer was arrested and charged by the Forney Police Department with engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of property between $750 and $2,500.
