ATHENS, Texas — Two alleged home invasion suspects were shot and killed in the Athens area on Sunday, according to Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.
ATHENS, Texas — Two alleged home invasion suspects were shot and killed in the Athens area on Sunday, according to Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.
Hillhouse says the two men, identified as 49-year-old Steven Kelley of Winona, Texas, and 31-year-old Cecil Spain of Grand Saline, Texas, invaded a home on Hopson Drive and attempted to rob two residents on Sunday afternoon.
Hillhouse says the two men posed as customers looking to purchase the the residents dog.
"The couple was physically restrained and suffered minor injuries during the home invasion," stated Hillhouse.
“It was a home invasion and attempted robbery that went very bad,” he said.
The two alleged suspects were sent to American Forensics for an autopsy following an inquest at the scene by Henderson County Justice of the Peace 4 Milton Adams.
“This is an active, ongoing investigation and I will provide additional information as it becomes available,” Hillhouse said.
A search warrant for the residence was issued by Henderson County 392nd District Court Judge Scott McKee.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers are investigating.
