TERRELL, Texas — Two men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of an elderly Terrell man discovered in his home last month in southern Hunt County.
18-year-old Kyle Kauffman and 21-year-old Timothy Kelley have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of 70-year-old William Dow Schauer of Terrell, Texas, according to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks.
On November 26, 2014, Schauer’s body was discovered in his home on County Road 2400 which is located in southern Hunt County — west of Quinlan, Texas, and north of Terrell. Schauer’s vehicle, a white 2012 Lincoln 4-door, was later recovered in Terrell, Texas, said Meeks.
Kauffman is the adopted nephew of Schauer and possibly lived at Schauer’s residence at one time, Meeks said. Kauffman and Kelley are acquaintances. The theft of the vehicle is the only apparent motive for the killing at this stage in the investigation, according to Meeks who said the case remains open and active.
Citing the ongoing investigation, Meeks was unable to describe how the two young men killed Schauer.
“It bothers me that there are three lives ruined now because of this senseless act,” Meeks told inForney.com.
Kauffman is being held on a $1,000,000 bond for murder and Kelley is being held on a $500,000 bond for murder and a $50,000 for an enhanced theft from a person charge.
