FORNEY, Texas โ€” Two people were arrested early Friday morning after an investigation into a stolen vehicle in Mesquite made its way into Forney, according to a Mesquite Police Department official.

The Mesquite Police Department began tracking a reported stolen vehicle in the area of Hillcrest Street just south of U.S. Highway 80 in Mesquite, Texas, which was reported stolen out of Seagoville.

Using GPS tracking, police officers were able to track the vehicle as it traveled eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 into Kaufman County where the Forney Police Department and Terrell Police Department were notified to be on the lookout.

As the vehicle approached Farm-to-Market (FM) 548, a Mesquite Police Department officer located the vehicle which continued to travel eastbound. Forney police officers began following the suspect vehicle and the Mesquite officer as they turned around on the Gateway Boulevard overpass and began traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 80.

Once additional Mesquite officers arrived in the area, officers โ€œlit upโ€ the vehicle and initiated a felony traffic stop. The vehicle exited U.S. Highway 80 at FM 548 and stopped on the north service road.

Two white males were arrested and will likely face charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to the Mesquite Police Department. The men may face additional charges from the Seagoville Police Department, where the vehicle was reported stolen.

The Mesquite Police Department is also investigating an attempted robbery of a Chevron gas station on Belt Line Road. The official says the cases are not related. The store's clerk reported three black males with masks attempted to enter the store but were unable to because the doors were locked. They were last reported to have fled in a black SUV south on Belt Line Road.
