TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department took two people into custody and seized a firearm and narcotics following a multi-county police pursuit on Friday night.

TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department took two people into custody and seized a firearm and narcotics following a multi-county police pursuit on Friday night.

Just before 10 p.m., the pursuit began in the area of Main Street and 9th Street and traveled north onto Griffith Avenue through residential streets. From Griffith Avenue, the vehicle traveled westbound, then north on Walnut Street where it continue north on Farm-to-Market (FM) 986 into Poetry.

The pursuit entered Hunt County on FM 1565 and traveled westbound on Interstate 30 into Rockwall County. The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit as the vehicle exited FM 551 and continued on the north frontage road where deputies laid spike strips.

After striking the spike strips, the vehicle veered into the grass median between the frontage road and the highway where it came to a stop. Police arrested 22-year-old Dillon Canaday and 26-year-old Chelsea Bones, both of Mesquite, Texas, without further incident.

Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom said a Terrell Polie Department Narcotics Unit initiated the pursuit after observing Canaday, who was known to the officer as a wanted person out of Dallas County for theft/larceny, and Bones leave from a local business and get inside their vehicle. Sansom says the pursuit began when the pair failed to yield to an officer initiating a traffic stop.

Canaday was charged with evading arrest or detention with vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 greater than 28 grams, and the Dallas County warrant. Bones was charged with tampering physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 greater than 28 grams, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
