FORNEY, Texas — A high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended on U.S. Highway 80 in Forney with two people in custody early Friday morning.

FORNEY, Texas — A high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended on U.S. Highway 80 in Forney with two people in custody early Friday morning.

Just after 1:30 a.m., the pursuit began in south Garland after a Garland Police Department officer checked a license plate on a vehicle in a parking lot and it came back reported stolen. The vehicle fled through portions of south Garland and Mesquite before heading eastbound on U.S. Highway 80.

In Forney, the vehicle exited Broad Street with speeds reported over 100 miles per hour through town before the pursuit continued onto Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 towards Talty.

Once in Talty, a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter joined the pursuit as the vehicle continued northbound on FM 148, under Interstate 20, and westbound on Spur 557.

The vehicle continued from Spur 557 back onto U.S. Highway 80 where it stopped just west of the Gateway Bridge in Forney.

Police conducted a felony stop and took two males into custody without further incident. The highway was briefly closed while police made their arrests.

The Mesquite Police Department, Forney Police Department, and Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the pursuit.
