KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A 41-year-old Wills Point man was arrested on Friday, November 28, 2014, following an altercation on U.S. Highway 80 near Elmo, Texas, assaulting an officer, and attempting to take his weapon.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Damon Morris Dixon, was reportedly walking into the highway — forcing cars to swerve around him. Several people attempted to keep the man out of the road but Dixon allegedly began fighting with them.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and additional law enforcement agencies responded to the altercation.

A Kaufman County Sheriff’s deputy was first on scene and Dixon allegedly began struggling with the officer and attempted to take his firearm. He was subsequently taken into custody.

It’s unclear what caused Dixon to enter the highway. Dixon was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas, where law enforcement is awaiting the results of a toxicology test.

Dixon has since been transported to the Kaufman County Jail where he is being held on charges for assaulting a public servant and attempting to take a weapon from an officer on $10,000 and $5,000 bonds, respectively.

Dixon sustained apparent facial injuries, the deputy sustained minor abrasions, and no other injuries were reported.

Court records indicate Dixon has prior convictions for criminal trespass and possession of less than two ounces of marijuana.
