KAUFMAN, Texas — A woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a series of events that resulted in damage to a Kaufman gas station, a crash, and the woman being tasered before her arrest.

Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black said police were notified of a woman at the Circle K gas station at the intersection of Washington Street and U.S. Highway 175 who was threatening individuals with a knife.

As officers arrived, they observed the woman fleeing the scene in her vehicle — leaving behind a wake of damage at the gas station having allegedly rammed into a gas pump and the front of the store.

Black says the woman narrowly avoided striking a responding police officer as she fled north on Washington Street. The woman then wrecked into an 18-wheeler on Washington Street, according to Black.

Kaufman Police Officers and the Kaufman County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office were able to box in the woman at the scene of the crash. As officers approached, Black says the woman was either threatening to injure herself or had injured herself with a knife. Officers broke a window and tasered the woman to prevent any or further injuries with the knife.

The woman was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman under police escort.

As officers were arresting the woman, Black says she told police she had attempted to catch her house on fire and left the stove on at the house on West 10th Street. Firefighters were able to respond and determine the house was clear of any present danger.

As of 1:10 p.m., police are continuing to work the crime scene at the Circle K gas station.

This is a developing story.
