FORNEY, TX — Cody Newman, band director at Forney High School, has been recognized on the national stage as one of the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation’s 2024 Music Teachers of Excellence. The prestigious award celebrates educators who show exceptional dedication to music education, and Newman was one of just 30 teachers across the country to receive the honor this year.
Along with the award, Newman received a $5,000 grant to further his music education efforts. In a move that reflects his commitment to the broader community, Newman chose to share a portion of the funds beyond his own program—allocating $1,250 to support music programs at four elementary schools within Forney ISD.
“I’m beyond honored to have been chosen by the Country Music Association Foundation for this recognition,” Newman said. “I accept it on behalf of the many incredible students, parents, colleagues, and mentors that have made my career such a joy. I believe that music education is an essential aspect of a student’s development, and me being able to play a small part in their journey is the real trophy!”
Now in his fifth year as band director at Forney High School, Newman continues to uphold and expand the program’s long-standing legacy of excellence. His decision to invest in younger students underscores his vision for cultivating a strong foundation in fine arts across the district.
“Mr. Newman’s generosity and leadership have an impact that goes far beyond the high school band hall,” said a district spokesperson. “By supporting elementary programs, he’s helping ignite a lifelong love of music in our youngest learners and ensuring the future of music education in Forney remains bright.”
Through his award-winning teaching and selfless investment in others, Cody Newman continues to inspire students and fellow educators alike—one note at a time.
