FORNEY, TX – The Forney High School varsity girls soccer team is making a statement in their first season competing in the UIL’s highly competitive 6A classification. With a stellar 9-1 record, including a perfect 2-0 in district play, the Lady Rabbits are turning heads and earning statewide recognition.

Their most recent victory, a decisive win over Rockwall, who were 6A state semifinalists last season, underscores the team's potential. This impressive performance has propelled Forney into the state rankings, with the Texas Girls Coaches Association placing them 25th in 6A and MaxPreps ranking them 21st overall in Texas.

The Lady Rabbits' only blemish on their record came in their second game of the season against a strong Sachse squad. Since then, they've been on a tear, showcasing both talent and depth. An astounding 14 different players have found the back of the net, demonstrating the team's balanced attack. Junior Madalynn Putnam leads the charge with 8 goals and 6 assists, making her a key playmaker for Forney.

Senior Kyleigh Johnson, a University of Arizona commit, brings invaluable experience and leadership to the team. Her exceptional play anchors the squad and sets a high standard for her teammates.

Longtime coach Trisha Williamson attributes the team's success to their dynamic nature. "If I had to use one word to describe our team, it would be...dynamic," Williamson commented. "We have players able to play multiple positions and different players scoring in games. There's versatility in the way they play depending on the opponent, and they have the ability to flip the field pretty quickly (from defense to offense etc). We still have work to do, but the girls are finding a way to win."

The jump to 6A has presented new challenges, with three teams in District 10-6A currently holding state rankings. "This season will be tough. We are 6A now and 3 of the teams in district 10-6A are currently ranked," Williamson acknowledged. "We have a lot of respect for our opponents, and we know that each game will be a battle."

Despite the stiff competition, Williamson emphasizes the team's focus on growth and enjoyment. "As they say 'iron sharpens iron,' so we are hoping to grow and learn from each game and have some fun out there."

The community is encouraged to come out and support the Lady Rabbits in their quest for continued success. Their next game is at home against Royse City at 7:15 PM.
