FORNEY, Texas — The much anticipated southern leg of Gateway Boulevard opened earlier today completing an eastern loop around the city limits of Forney and providing for another U.S. Highway 80 access point for those south of the highway.

With its completion, Gateway Boulevard connects Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 to FM 1641 in an eastern loop around the city. The boulevard spans U.S. Highway 80 and the Union Pacific railroad at the Gateway Bridge — providing much needed relief to the few at-grade crossings in downtown Forney, at FM 548, and a future proposed crossing at Windmill Farms Boulevard.

The southern leg also serves as the main roadway for the new Gateway Parks 1,850-lot, 540-acre master planned residential community between FM 1641 and County Road 212.

Gateway Parks recently completed construction on several model homes and builders have begun construction on several other homes in the first phase of the development near County Road 212.

The first phase of Gateway Parks development will consist of 100 lots and a second, more aggressive phase is expected to follow shortly after with 330 lots proposed, a developer representative told inForney.com last year in an update on the overall project. Homes are expected to be priced in the mid-$200s.

Gateway Parks is part of a much larger 2,000-acre master planned development which also includes plans for retail, commercial, light industrial, medical, hotel, office, and entertainment development.
