KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office has apprehended a local man on a second-degree felony charge of Indecency With a Child by Sexual Contact, as confirmed by public jail records.
Brent Daniel Osteen, age 31, was taken into custody on October 29, 2025, following the issuance of a warrant on the same day. He was booked into the Kaufman County Jail at 4:12 p.m. and is currently housed in unit B10A-06. The Sheriff’s Office is both the arresting and charging agency.
According to jail records, the alleged offense occurred on April 1, 2025. Osteen’s bond has been set at $100,000.
Under Texas law, Indecency With a Child by Sexual Contact is classified as a second-degree felony, punishable by 2 to 20 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and may require sex-offender registration upon conviction.
At this time, no additional case information has been released, and authorities have not indicated whether further charges will be filed. As with all criminal matters, Osteen is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

"Felony cases are sent to the District Attorney for intake. They have a special prosecutor for crimes against children in Kaufman County. Most cases will then proceed to a grand jury. The grand jury reviews evidence to determine if there is sufficient cause to formally indict."
