FORNEY, Texas — It was anyone’s game as the Forney High School Jackrabbits (4-6, 2-5) and the North Forney High School Falcons (4-6, 1-6) took to the gridiron at City Bank Stadium for the 5th annual Unity Bowl and their final District 15-5A matchups.
The Jackrabbits, however, kept the momentum, scoring at least once in each quarter, and continued their undefeated streak of North Forney High School in the cross-town rivalry Unity Bowl for the fifth straight year.
The teams favored an offensive strategy akin to their mascot with the Jackrabbits and Falcons accumulating 241 yards in rushing and passing, respectively.
Forney’s Brendan Vaughn, an OSU commit, caught 4 passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 5 yards and another touchdown en route to a Jackrabbit victory.
Both teams scored on their first drives of the night. With the Jackrabbits receiving the initial kickoff, and less than 3 minutes ticked off the clock, Jaylon Hutchings sealed their first drive with a 5-yard rushing touchdown. The Falcons answered just 4 plays later on more than 60 yards of gain on a Colby Suits 5-yard pass to Jackson Ennels.
Vaughn reached high for a Devon Rideaux pass over a Falcon defender in the second quarter for his first touchdown on the night and, on the Falcons next possession, Forney’s Kyle Stephens recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for another Jackrabbit touchdown.
The Jackrabbits led 21-6 going into halftime.
With 7:37 on the clock in the third quarter, Vaughn caught a 38-yard Rideaux pass for another Jackrabbit touchdown and, with 1:40 left in the third quarter, rushed for his third and final touchdown on the night.
Forney’s Michael Huffman started the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard field goal.
Going scoreless following their first drive of the night, the Falcons scored the final two touchdowns of the night with Colby Suits scampering for a 1-yard quarterback sneak and later connecting with Ennels on an 8-yard pass.
The final score was 37-19 in favor of Forney.
Forney accumulated 377 total yards on the night with Rideaux passing for 136 yards and rushing for another 140 yards. Hutchings would go on to rush for 87 total yards on 15 carries.
North Forney accumulated 330 total yards with Suits passing for 241 yards, two touchdowns, and rushing for another, Calvin Ribera rushing for 69 yards, Khari Dickinson for 52 yards, Barclay Ford receiving for 102 yards, Jordan Carrol for 49 yards, Jaylin Smith for 39 yards, and Ennels for 35 yards and two touchdowns. Suits threw for over 2,000 yards on the season.
The game signified the end of the season for both teams which failed to seal playoff berths.
