Texas Begins 2025 with 2.9 Million Business Entities Registered

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson announced that Texas began 2025 with more than 2.9 million entities registered with the Secretary of State to conduct business in the Lone Star State.

“The economic climate in Texas continues to be strong as entrepreneurs grow and create businesses in our state and more out-of-state entities want to expand to Texas,” said Secretary Nelson in a press release.

As of January 1, 2025, Texas had 2,928,688 registered business entities - 125,329 more than in 2024.

The total includes businesses incorporated in Texas and out-of-state entities conducting business in the Lone Star State. The largest classification is in-state, limited liability companies, of which there are 2 million.

According to the release, the growth over the last year is consistent with its trend over the last decade. At the beginning of 2015, 1.47 million entities were registered, which means that the number of active business entities has almost doubled in the previous decade.

“As Texas continues to grow and attract more economic development, the Secretary of State’s office is committed to providing quality service to all those who file with our agency,” said Secretary Nelson.

According to internal data released by the Secretary of State's office, the agency interacted with the business community 12 million times in fiscal year 2024, up from 6.7 million interactions a decade earlier.
