FORNEY, Texas — An 18-year-old has been charged with evading arrest and deadly conduct after a motorcycle pursuit last night in Travis Ranch.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable Jason Johnson tells inForney.com a motorcycle was observed by one of his deputies on Travis Ranch Boulevard beyond the barricades.
“As the suspect pulled up and noticed my deputy in his patrol car waiting for him, he took off at a very high rate of speed, running stop signs, and almost hitting a bunch of children at the park as they were playing,” stated Johnson.
“During the pursuit, the suspect caused my deputy to wreck out and caused serious damage to the police vehicle,” stated Johnson.
Johnson says the deputy’s vehicle went nose down into a culvert while pursuing the motorcycle through a field.
The deputy lost sight of the motorcycle which later pulled into his garage in the Travis Ranch area.
The suspect was later identified and arrested at around 9 p.m. that night, according to Johnson. He has been identified as 18-year-old Hayden Rogers.
Rogers is facing charges for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and deadly conduct. The motorcycle was seized.
Johnson says the deputy suffered a sprained arm and a large contusion on his arm. The deputy was taken to an area hospital for observation, was released, and is recovering at home.
“This will not be tolerated in this community and in my precinct,” stated Johnson. “Please do not let your children ride any unregistered motor vehicles, motorcycles, four wheelers, golf carts or side by sides, on a public roadway or private property at the end of TR Blvd.”
“If they are observed by any officers or witnesses, they will be pulled over, issued a citation, and impounded,” stated Johnson. “I will not allow any individuals or suspects put anyone in danger in this community or any other community for that matter.”
