1994 cold case murder suspect extradited to Kaufman County

KAUFMAN, Texas β€” A man has been extradited from Wichita, Kansas, to face charges in a 22-year-old cold case murder in Kaufman, Texas, the Kaufman Police Department announced on Thursday.

Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black tells inForney.com the man, Alvaro Iglesias Rodriguez, was extradited and booked into the Kaufman County Jail earlier today.

Rodriguez, who has been living in Wichita under an alias for nearly 20 years, was arrested after being placed on the Kaufman County Most Wanted list in August 2016.

Rodriguez was later indicted by a Kaufman County grand jury with on count of murder in connection with the 1994 shooting death of then-25-year-old Francisco Sanchez Salazar who was shot approximately 14 times on the night of June 9, 1994, at the City Coin Laundry in Kaufman, Texas.

Family members tell police Rodriguez crossed the border into Mexico just two days after the killing where he stayed for approximately three years before returning to the United States where he settled in Wichita, Kansas. Rodriguez was living under the name Mauricio San Miguel Reyes.

Investigators with the Kaufman Police Department and the Wichita Police Department identified Rodriguez by fingerprint cards associated with cases in Kaufman County and in Wichita.

The Kaufman Police Department also receive invaluable insight from the lead detective, Thomas Bohn, who originally worked the case in 1994. After leaving the department, Bohn returned in 2014.

β€œThis is proof once again that the Crime Stoppers program works,” Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black stated after the arrest.
