Quick action by a young man stopped an auto theft in the Trails of Chestnut Meadow neighborhood in Forney. The suspect fled after the owner’s son jumped onto the roof cargo rails of her Subaru Outback and dialed 911.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, January 22, 2013, the suspect used a “valet” key to gain entrance to the vehicle and start the engine. The car alarm sounded, awakening 21-year-old Ryon Byrne who confronted the suspect. Byrne says he tried to open the back door of the vehicle but it was still locked so he jumped on the vehicle and grabbed ahold of the roof cargo rails. With his free hand, Byrne says, he dialed 911.
Once the suspect noticed Byrne on the vehicle and on the phone, he fled the scene having only backed the car out of the driveway. The suspect, David Gerald Williamson, 30, jumped into a female accomplice’s vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. A Forney Police Officer noticed the vehicle and pulled the suspects over before they were able to leave the Trails of Chestnut Meadow neighborhood.
While Williamson was identified by witnesses as the suspect in this crime, inForney.com is awaiting a detailed incident report from the Forney Police Department. Williamson was charged with theft of property over $1,500 and under $20,000, possession of a prohibited weapon, and fraudulent use or possession of 50 or more false identification items. He is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on a total bond of $532,500.
The suspected accomplice, Crystal Lain Sarratt, 32, was also charged with fraudulent use or possession of 50 or more false identification items and possession of a prohibited weapon. Sarratt is also being held for other charges in Dallas and Garland. Her bond is set at $508,449. An information request is also pending to verify Sarratt as the accomplice in the car at the time of the arrest.
