HEARTLAND, Texas — A Heartland woman was jailed last week after admitting to striking an infant she was babysitting.
Tiffani DeGroot was arrested on February 2, 2016, according to jail records, and charged with injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual. Degroot posted a $10,000 bond the next day and was released from the Kaufman County jail, records indicate.
The infant, Parker, who is six months old, according to her mother Lauren Toler, was being babysat by DeGroot at her Heartland home —in between Forney and Crandall— when the incident occurred.
Degroot admitted to striking the infant after she began crying in a police report filed with the Crandall Police Department.
Toler tells inForney.com Parker was taken to Lake Pointe hospital in Forney for examination at the time of the incident — she suffered busted blood vessels in her eyes from crying so hard, slap marks on each side of her face, and a scratch near her right eye.
“[DeGroot] said that she was going through a lot of personal issues, financial problems, things of that sort,” Crandall Police Department Chief Billy Kilgore told Fox 4 News on Tuesday saying DeGroot was remorseful for her actions.
Toler says Parker is now doing well and being cared for by her aunt.
The family is now just warning other parents to be careful with who they leave in charge of their children.
