TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department made several arrests over the weekend including two with the assistance of the Forney Police Department and one with the assistance of an armed citizen.

22-year-old David Underwood of Wills Point, Texas, was arrested after attempting to steal a large, custom drainage grate, valued at $350, from Tiger’s Paw Car Wash in the 100 block of 1st Street in Terrell, Texas, on Friday afternoon. Underwood was confronted by an armed citizen, an employee at the car wash, who had witnessed him load the grate into the back of a pickup truck.

Underwood was detained at the scene without incident by the armed citizen until police arrived. Underwood confessed to police and was charged with theft between $50 and $500, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. Underwood has since posted bond.

Two more arrests came after two male subjects, who had reportedly been drinking, struck a utility pole and a parked car in the Motel 6 parking lot in the 100 block of Mira Place in Terrell, Texas, at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday. The men, 21-year-old Cody Hillhouse of Athens, Texas, and 21-year-old Stoney Williams of Ben Wheeler, Texas, fled the scene of the accident and became involved in a foot pursuit with a Forney police officer who was providing a courtesy transport to a stranded motorist.

Hillhouse was charged with public intoxication and evading arrest. Williams was charged with duty on striking structure, fixture, or highway landscape greater than or equal to $200 and evading arrest or detention. Both have since bonded out of the Kaufman County Jail. More on this story, here.

Just after midnight on Saturday, 49-year-old Charles Windfield of Terrell, Texas, was arrested and charged with public intoxication and also held overnight on suspicion of burglary of a vehicle. Winfield was observed by police entering an area empty handed and later returning with a chainsaw and a toolbox police believe came from a burglarized vehicle at an automotive shop in the 100 block of Bowser Circle in Terrell, Texas.

Officers observed pry marks on a toolbox on the truck but were unable to reach the owner of the vehicle and Windfield was released on the lesser charge. The investigation into the burglary of the vehicle is ongoing, according to Sansom.

DWI charges are also pending for 35-year-old Justin Hancher of Wills Point, Texas, who allegedly disregarded activated railroad crossing arms at South Virginia Street and was struck by a train. After being extricated from his vehicle, Hancher was transported to Texas Presbyterian Hospital in Rockwall, Texas, where he awaits DWI charges. More on this story, here.
