TERRELL, Texas — A man who led police on a high-speed chase, fired at a pursuing police officer, and barricaded himself in a home earlier this month is being held on bonds totaling $1,705,000.
24-year-old Dylan Ryan Canaday is being held at the Kaufman County Jail after the July 5 incident on charges for aggravated assault against a public servant on a $500,000 bond, two counts of endangering a child with criminal negligence with $100,000 bonds on each, evading arrest or detention with previous conviction with a $100,000 bond, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon on a $150,000 bond, and a number of drug charges with additional bonds of $750,000.
Police say Canaday fled from police at a high-rate of speed, pulled into a private residence off State Highway 205 north of Terrell, fired on a pursuing officer, and fled into the private residence and hid under clothing in a laundry room.
Following a standoff, police and SWAT officers entered the residence with a K-9 unit and took Canaday into custody. A tazer was deployed during the arrest.
At the time Canaday fled into the residence, two children were inside and pursuing officers were notified of their presence, immediately entered, and retrieved the children before establishing a perimeter around the residence.
In 2015, Canaday led the Terrell Police Department on a high-speed chase into Rockwall County before sheriff’s deputies spiked his tires and ended the pursuit. He was sentenced to five years probation which has since been revoked due to the latest incident.
