TERRELL, Texas — Police officers seized cocaine and marijuana from a traffic stop yesterday and arrested two individuals on drug-related charges.
TERRELL, Texas — Police officers seized cocaine and marijuana from a traffic stop yesterday and arrested two individuals on drug-related charges.
At approximately 1:56 p.m., Terrell Police Department Narcotics Investigators observed a known wanted man, identified as 21-year-old Ronal Marquez, driving a white Acura SUV bearing Texas temporary tags.
Marquez was first observed near the intersection of Ruby Street and St. Luke Street and later stopped for a traffic violation on the westbound entrance ramp to Interstate 20 at Rose Hill Road.
"Upon approach, a strong odor of fresh marijuana was emitting from inside vehicle," stated Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.
A Kaufman County Sheriff's Office warrant for Marquez's arrest was verified and he was taken into custody.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 20-year-old Roberto Alonso, was also wanted on a Kaufman County Sheriff's Office warrant for possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 3.
"A lawful search of the vehicle was conducted," stated Sansom. "Investigators found marijuana and powder cocaine individually packed for sell."
The marijuana weighed at 20.3 grams and five bags of powder cocaine weighed 1.9 grams. The narcotics were seized along with $520, in $20 dollar bills, believed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics transactions.
Marquez and Alonso were arrested and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.
A third passenger in the vehicle was not found to be in possession of narcotics, or wanted, and was released.
